How to make the Internet Explorer 9 Address Bar Longer [Solved]

Posted on February 20, 2012 by Percy Kwong

If you’re anything like me, you like a nice long address bar.  Preferably to go across the entire top of the screen if you can.  The introduction of Internet Explorer (IE) 9 and previous versions has just added to the list of windows annoyances.

This is actually easily rectified in two easy steps.  So here’s how to do it.

This is probably what you see now; Annoying isn’t it?

To solve this problem, right click on the blank space to the right of the tab (must be an empty space and the following menu will pop up.

Simply just uncheck Lock the toolbars and check ‘Show Tabs on a separate row’

You’re done and now, you should get this wonderful screen.

While this is a simple fix, Microsoft has a habit of not documenting anything and GUI design doesn’t seem to be their forte.  Not that Apple has done much better with hiding their address bar altogether in Safari.

I hope this helps.  It should make a huge difference in your browsing experience if you use Internet Explorer (IE).
